Painting of Mushroom by Vita Schagen

“Nature alone is antique, and the oldest art a mushroom.” ~ Thomas Carlyle

To the fallen leaves
The rain blows,
Drenching their veins
Stay in their fold,
Wet earth, let it rot,
And when the sun shine,
From the melted fronds
You see, mushrooms rise,

What is beauty a mushroom
Can’t hold,
Gift of forest for all to behold,
Umbrella soft on spread of green,
You nurse delight at the core
of being,

I watch the leaves fall,
Wonder how stories are
knit,
In nature’s bounty where
Nothing is missed —

The cycle of pain-n-rise
Can any one ignore?
Like mushrooms in nature
Here, poets mould.

Shiitake Cafe: “Most everything influences my work. Working in a used bookstore. Going for walks in the woods and peering at mushrooms. Writing reviews. Coming from frumpy, grumpy, faded-at-the-knees Winnipeg.” ― Ariel Gordon

I am in agreement with Ariel here. Of all the nature elements I am fond of , mushrooms are top recall.
I love the fact that they grow only when the soil in damp, flourishes only after a heavy shower and can live without the sun for several days.
I look forward to my monsoon terrace where my planters grow beautiful mushrooms, adding to the splendour of the original plant.
A lesson in nature where you see a rot sprouting beauty.

Talking of mushrooms, came across this article on microbiome by 𝐆𝐫𝐫𝐥𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭, scientist & journalist, which made for an interesting read.

Auf Wiedersehen from Soul Bay. Hope you enjoyed your mushroom trip as I enjoy sharing my space with you all.

Leaving with this Nat Geo short Documentary on what a Mushroom can actually do. Find out if you haven’t already :))
