Pickling Memories

While going through the pictures of my homemade mango pickle I was nostalgic. It’s been two years since I made the first batch of mango pickle and I still have some of the leftover pickle oil. Today, I prepared fresh pickle masala for the mango pickle.

For me, March is all about cooking those familiar, comforting recipes. The first two weeks are dedicated to making Holi festival delicacies, but now it’s time to slow down and focus on dishes I don’t need to rush.

So, the potato chips were sliced and sun dried, the thandai masala was made, and now it’s time for the pickle. In my hometown we never bought pickle from the store — it was always made at home. Maybe that’s why I can’t bring myself to buy store-bought pickle; it just doesn’t feel the same.
