How To Stay Positive Through Difficult Times

I’ve heard it said time and time again that it’s easy for people with an “ideal” life to be positive, inspirational and happy.

The thought is that the circumstances and reality they are dealing with (i.e. money, fame, ideal relationship, perfect body, beauty, etc…) somehow make life easier for them. So, for those faced with a less than ideal reality being positive, inspirational and happy is a long shot…an unfair expectation given their circumstances.

I won’t lie, those who have made it through turmoil to the other side can sometimes trivialize it. It can seem like they are candy coating the struggle. In talking about their difficulties, trials and setbacks they come off seeming super human. They seem to possess extraordinary perseverance, determination and focus. They seem to have a surreal ability to make it through. It’s easy to feel like you simply don’t possess the same aptitude.

Well, I’m here to tell you it may not feel like it, and it may not be easy, but you do. They don’t possess any super human powers or special abilities that you don’t have. The tools they use to excel are the same tools available within you.

Possessing an “ideal” life doesn’t make the problems go away, as a matter of fact, sometimes it masks them and/or creates more. Money, fame and fortune don’t make life easy. And ideal circumstances are not required to be positive, inspirational and happy.

Life fulfillment lies in the ability to find positivity, inspiration and happiness in realities that seem less than ideal. Life fulfillment is finding contentment despite the situations and circumstances that surround you.

The reality of life is there are going to be times life gives you external lemons, and you don’t have the internal sugar to make lemonade. During those times life is stripping you down and things can get bleak. But remember, your circumstances don’t define you, how you respond to them does.

The difficult times shape and mold who you become. They are more valuable to your growth and evolution than the “ideal” times can ever be. During difficult times lessons are taught, character is built and strength is obtained. During these times you craft sugar to add to your lemons so you can eventually produce lemonade.

During difficult times is it more challenging to stay hopeful, positive, inspiring and energetic? Yes.

Is it possible to do it? Absolutely!

Actually, finding a way to be hopeful, positive, inspiring and energetic is essential to your sanity and motivation.

Don’t get caught up in perceptions. What looks to be an “ideal” life externally, may still internally, be a sour situation.

In real life there are no super humans, just people who harness their internal powers to accomplish super achievements. Individuals who were faced with crappy, difficult times and instead of succumbing; they utilize their trials to cultivate sugar and end up making some great lemonade.

Every. Single. One. of us has the ability to be one of “those” people.

In trying times fight with yourself to maintain perspective. In the midst of difficult circumstances or situations take a moment to share any glimmer of positivity, inspiration and energy you have left with others who need it as much or more than you. When you do, you’ll find the act of sharing with someone who needs it will inspire and refuel you. That is a fundamental piece of making it through.
