When Is The Right Time?

Is there ever a right time to do a difficult thing?

The answer is no.

I hear people say all the time they are waiting for the “right time.” The right time to break up with someone, the right time to move to a new location, the right time to leave their job, the right time to have a baby, the right time to get married, the right time to follow their dreams…everyone’s waiting for the right time.

When we’re waiting for the right time we set conditions like I’ll do it when I’m more financially stable, when I retire, when I get a promotion, when I meet someone new… The funny thing is when we get close to or attain the conditions we set more “I’ll do it when” conditions appear. The truth is it’s not the right time we’re waiting for; we’re actually waiting for the mental fear and inherent risks that surround doing it to lessen or disappear.

If you’re waiting for the right time life will pass you by while you’re waiting. The right time to follow your dreams or do what you’re being guided to do will always be the present moment. There will never be a perfect time to step out and do something difficult, challenging or different. Time doesn’t make things easier; as a matter of fact as you take more time waiting, contemplating and planning the decision starts to come less from your heart and more from your head. And that’s if you proceed with the decision at all; chances are you’ll talk yourself out of it…most people do. You have to be willing to accept that there will always be fear present and there will always be something in your life that could be more ideal.

There is no such thing as a right time to do a difficult thing. Why put off for the future something you could start working towards today? The time is right the moment you honor the reality that now is not the perfect time and you access the courage to take a step forward and do it anyway.
