SEO rankings are essential. We say it all the time: you can have the most beautiful design, but if your website can’t be found, it’s futile.

There are a lot of ways to encourage SEO growth. Today, we’re going to talk about how a content calendar can help your business. First, this may not be what you really want to hear. But… that viral video, message, post, etc., most likely isn’t going to happen. The idea of internet fame and overnight success is few and far between. The reality is: growth is a grind. You have to be consistent. And a content calendar can help you with your consistency.

There are a lot of different content calendar options that will help you stay organized. We like Hootsuite for a free option that works well with small business scheduling needs. As far as planning options, we are a Google-based business, so we actually have a separate content calendar that is shared within the team, where we can all add to it collectively.

When you’ve picked your calendar of choice, start slow. Fill out the dates with different holidays, industry events, seasonal issues and internal vacations. This will fill the year with content faster than you’d imagine.

Once the one-offs are completed, set recurring notes for your daily posts. Make sure you don’t set your calendar to just say ‘blog post’ or ‘video upload.’ Be disciplined and write different titles that align with your business or current events. This will save you future headaches.

As a rule of thumb, you need to tweet once a day, post a blog a week that you can cross-post on Facebook, LinkedIn, Google, and where ever else you post your thought-leadership, again weekly. We use Instagram as often as it makes sense for us; it’s our more personal, casual business platform.

With all of that said, you’re looking at a minimum of ten posts a week (really, you’ll want to eventually increase that number). When you’re new to the game, this can seem overwhelming. But once you have your content calendar completed, you can rest assured that you can stay on track and have lasting, engaging content for your followers.

We’re always happy to help with marketing plans, drop us a line if you need help.
