On youth and adulthood

They say that youth is wasted on the young
but how much of adulthood
with all of its undeniable potential
for grace, humility, forgiveness, and charity
is wasted on adults
a mask of experienced bitterness
drawn over faces
wishing they could feel the warm sun of the past
just one more time.
