Gardener was written well before the Nobel prize winning prose poems Gitanjali that deserves a much higher place than it is placed through history.

The poems reek of romance and philosophy. In one particular poem he talks about how he has no time to sit and contemplate on afterlife in his twilight years as the current generation needs him. Age and grey hairs are a trifle. He needs to be present here and now. His romantic heart slowly matured with age culminating in love for the divine in Gitanjali. The transition of the soul from physical to metaphysical is evident as he progressed through life with unrequited love.

Pouring out his heart, not bothering about rhymes and meters, Tagore has given a treasure which often times resonate with the feelings in many hearts and give solace.

He is the Gardener , not only of the flower garden of his lady love, but of the flower garden of romance that blooms in every heart. Love it!
