What if that road isn’t fair enough?

Long I stood, between the two paths; contemplating, which one to take.

A final step, and it’s done! They made it to the top of the hill and a two-day adventure finally came to an end. As Sheldon and his group of friends put their bags down, relieving their shoulders, they all fell on the smooth, sofa-like grass of the hill. It seemed as if they had come home after a long day at work, and just wanted to jump on their beds, leaving aside all the things in the world — only for a perfect rest.

Sheldon and the boys honored their marvelous adventure with meats, chips, packaged chili, and drinks. After the celebration came to an end; the boys started to take out the equipment required for their night camp from their bags. They started out by building the base for two of their tents and finally covered it with the big thick cloth they had brought from their homes.

As they all completed their work; some of them decided to explore more of the surroundings of the hill, while some decided to rest in their tents. Sheldon chose the second option because he had already been attacked by the flu during the journey and did not want to risk himself more by diving into more of the surroundings. When he entered the tent, he was surprised to see that his friends hadn’t left space for him in his tent, so he decided to stay outside.

He sat in front of the tent, with his back resting on the walls of it and his eyes, sticking onto the yellow wood road far in the view, where two roads went their own way. Sheldon was an aspiring poet, and for anything he seemed to be curious about, he would start to contemplate for hours about it. Far from his reach, he saw a yellow wood forest, which was illuminated by the dappled sunlight, and the autumn hue which filtered through the leaves. Sheldon takes out his diary, where he wrote all his thoughts, and starts to write,

“I started to imagine myself standing between the two roads, looking down as far as I could until they disappeared on the horizon. I decided to take the first, as it seemed easy to travel and seemed just as fair. Later, I fell into the sea of thoughts. What if that road isn’t fair enough? What if it isn’t a better choice? I doubted if I should ever come back. I decided to leave the first one for another day and choose the second one. Again, those thoughts started to sink me .”

This article was inspired by Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken”. The poem focuses on telling us the importance of making a good decision, as this verse suggests.

I shall be telling this with a sigh.

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in some wood, and I —

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

that the decision you make today will decide your life tomorrow.

The word “sigh” in verse shows feelings such as regret and applause; the regret of a false decision and the applause for the correct choice. The words “ages and ages” determine that the impact of decisions you make today will stay with you till tomorrow. Finally, “And that has made all the difference” incorporates the meaning that every choice and decision has consequences that can shape the course of one’s life. The hardest thing in life is to choose between things because you never know what consequences you’ll have to bear.

There is something known as fate and free will that shapes our lives.
