Would You Live Somewhere You Hate For Someone You Love?
I can’t believe I didn’t see it before
Have you ever felt your perspective shift so suddenly — yet so violently — as if a massive cerebral wall suddenly collapsed, exposing horrors you should have sensed all along?
Today, I couldn’t drive fast enough. My tires were caught in tar. My movements — like molasses. My senses were wired and fried. Every cell in my body was on high alert.
I have to get out of this town. I have to get out of this state.
My Ghost
I was only two hours away from home, passing through my old high school stomping grounds with a U-Haul trailer, on the way from Texas to Alaska.
It was supposed to be a good day laced with nostalgia and farewells. What happened?
The wall fell. Oh shit. Is this what Evan has been talking about for the past seven years? I can’t believe I didn’t see it before. How is the concrete ugly? Is that a thing?
I weaved the truck and trailer through the narrow streets until I arrived at Baylor and 11th. Like a tourist at the Versace murder mansion, I pulled out my phone and started snapping pictures.
