Ma Shailaputri is the first Goddess manifestation of the Navadurga (nine forms of Goddess Durga). Navaratri (the nine nights festival) celebrates the divine feminine starting from day one of Ma Shailaputri’s prayers. Jai Ma.

Prayer of Ma Shailaputri

“I pay my VANDANA/obeisance to the DIVINE MOTHER SHAILA-PUTRI, who bestows upon the choicest boons to the devotees. The moon in the crescent form is adorned as the crown on Her forehead. She is mounted on the bullock. She holds a lance in her hand. She is Yashasvini — the CELEBRATED MOTHER DURGA.”

Ma,

the crescent moon rises tonight
from your lotus palms
i can feel the compassion
of your divine light reach my skin

teach me your trident’s hold
of sacrifice to rescue the spark
of our existence, of the night
when you saved our protector

Ma,

Nandi the divine bull has eyes
of the hermit of Kailash you
jumped into the fire for. your
search is my search now.

i sit on my red lotus of root
meditating on your soft flower
and your high mountain you
crossed to find your Kundalini.

teach me also how to find my Shiva.
