Ma Kushmanda is the fourth Goddess manifestation of the Navadurga (nine forms of Goddess Durga). Navaratri (the nine nights festival) celebrates the divine feminine.

Ku means “a little”, Ushma means “warmth” or “energy” and Anda means “egg,” referring to the cosmic egg. She created the universe in the flash of Her smile and is believed to bestow siddhis(supernatural powers) and niddhis(wealth) to Her devotees.”

Ma,

in the dark void
spreads a formless sea
of light looking for
hands of creation

there in the dream
for you and by you
you arrive as the
Goddess with a smile

from your smile, Ma,
all worlds are born

all the Shivas and Shaktis
all the Vishnus and Lakshmis
all the Brahamas and Saraswatis
Kali is yours, Chandi is yours

you are them all
sun is yours

Ma, bless us with your light
that is a flower’s smile
more powerful than sun
it births beauty with its nectar
