A chakra poem

Monday night yoga
chakra meditation —
my choice is blue
throat-blue,
voice-blue,
being-loud-and-proud-blue,
for not being timid when
speaking my truth,
for not letting others
speak for me,
for choosing authenticity
over propriety,
for finding the roar of my youth
and setting it free in old age,
for telling the world

I still use the meditation when I am afraid to say what I need to say, when my writing doesn’t flow, when I see injustice and have to be bold and brazen, and when I need to share bad or disappointing news.

The meditation itself is simple. I close my eyes, chant a few Aums to center myself, then I imagine my throat is a natural, warm, vibrant blue color. I see my tongue and mouth and the escaping words as blue. The words hang in the air —…

I was always a writer but lived in a bookkeeper’s body before I found Medium and broke free — well, almost. Working to work less and write more.
