So the Rose Grows

How we silence ourselves and mock
each other — it occurred to me as I was
ploughing through old papers
where I found so many people
I had quite forgotten. How many times
I had moved, started lives like
some episodic challenge. Perhaps
we only settle in the ambushed hours.
Oft quoted, he said, an organism in pain
keeps on moving, but it’s not a day
for big ideas, or words I tell my clients.
I move because I like adventure & challenge
remember how each action
can have numerous motives.
I will always wring future from presence.
And when the world is on its knees
we speak tender to one another
while the outer walls ring with troubles.
The wild rose grows where it shouldn’t.
