First things first — what is Central European Games conference? CEGC is brand new conference focused on game development in Vienna founded by Mariebeth Aquino.

For us, everything started in the morning around 4 AM when we went from Zlin to Vienna. Upon arrival we prepared our booth with roll-up and monitors with exclusive preview of our game teaser. The conference started with welcome talk by Mariebeth. On Marie’s talk you could see her passion and love for what she doing and it was really inspiring.

After Marie’s talk, Michal and Pryemyslaw from 11bit studio had keynote about their five years’ experience as independent developers. They went through mobile games development including Anomaly — tower offense — game to the recent PC hit “This War of Mine”.

After 11bit studios keynote we went back to our booth to show and talk about our (soon) TBA game. On CEGC we also exclusively revealed name of our game!

We were really surprised of reactions — they were super positive and it was great to hear nice feedback from other developers and gamers.

We plan to go to the Kickstarter with our game, so Marek, our game designer, went to the Kickstarter panel with speakers that have experience with successful Kickstarter projects, like Jan Jirkovsky from our Czech collegues Dreadlocks. Panel was really inspiring and little depressing together, full of first-hand experiences, often not exactly positive — like serious problems with large number physical rewards.

We also went to other booths at Indie Expo and it was really awesome. We have seen many great projects, including games from CBE Software like J.U.L.I.A., Schein by Zeppelin Studio or color-based game called Hue by Daniel Da Rocha and many more. It was really exciting to talk with other indie developers and share experiences with them.

After lunch break I had my talk about our journey from using Unity to Unreal Engine 4. I was really nervous because there was Andy Hess from Epic Games and I didn’t want to screw it. Also this was my first talk completely in English. Except for some misunderstood questions, I think it was good, because some people stopped me and thanked me for good talk. But I still think it could be better…

And in the end of day was great party in Arcadia club.

Second day we were nearly all time at our booth and we talked with lots of people about our game. Also we went to the talk “Supporting Low Memory Target Devices in Unity — Porting Gunhouse to Windows Mobile” by Nuno Antunes which was really interesting. We traveled home in the evening, completely tired.

CEGC was really great conference, with great organization, speakers and people around!

Thank you and we are looking forward to next year.
