What do you do when
They don’t listen to you?
To your words or your pleas
Your emotion infused eyes or your fists
To your pain or embarrassment

It is time you learnt, my love
The importance of self respect and defense
Understand that your anger can be your friend

A beautiful soul you are
You have a sparkle in your smile
So dainty you are, so pure and kind
Who would expect anger?

But can I never defend myself?
You ask me, with a weary heart
Against their verbal knives and blades
Their sneers and their jealousy
What on earth should you do?

Let them sneer, I say
You must strip away their ego
With sharp words of your own
Pierce their sword back into their skin
Doubling the momentum and precision
Because your kindness shouldn’t warm those
Who don’t deserve its light

Sharpen your words
Show them the power of staying calm
Strong and balanced
Even in the face of their cruelty

Never let the immoral bully you
Never let them make you insecure
Because no one can make you feel inferior
If you don’t give them the power to
Don’t let them enter in
Where it counts in your heart

Show those cowards, those perpetrators of mental harm
The strength of grace and nobility
Of self defense and non-reactivity
Of having that split second courage
To get angry when the time is right

For goodness should have the power
To protect itself
Or all it becomes, is a pity for others to see
There is a power that lies
In refusing to dissolve under their harsh glare
Even when they try to burn you.

The power to protect yourself exists within you
Protect and defend yourself
Only you can do it best
Know this truth that lies deep within
That is the one truth of this matter
When a dangerous situation arises
Your greatest weapon is yourself.
