What is Sound Shelter?
Think of Sound Shelter as your own personalised record store. As DJs and vinyl collectors ourselves, we know the time and effort that not only goes into finding new records, but also actually finding a store that sells the record you want.
So we’ve taken the best parts of an online record store, like curation and quality listening samples and combined it with machine learning and a real-time marketplace that connects you with an independent record store selling the record you want.
Why did you do that?
We originally set up Sound Shelter to make online record shopping slightly more pleasurable. At the time the issues were things like:
— The records we were being shown just weren’t what I was looking for.
— The interface of the stores were mediocre at best (mobile friendly wasn’t a thing).
— Once we’d found a record, it was usually out of stock so we’d have to scan through tons of Google results to find a store that sold it.
Hopefully Sound Shelter is going someway towards solving those points:
— We mix human curation with machine learning to give completely unique recommendations for each user.
— The site is designed to be as good on mobile as it is on desktop.
— We have real-time connections with several of the best record stores in the UK, EU and USA, so we can instantly find a store that has the record in stock.
What kind of music does Sound Shelter feature?
Sound Shelter has a particular focus on the underground electronic music scene, but we also love hip-hop, dub and soul jazz.
How do I get personalised music recommendations?
Listen to records, Save some records to your Wishlist, and Follow your favourite artists and labels. We’ll learn your tastes and give you personalised recommendations to help you discover great new records for your collection
