While the pandemic may have made it unsafe to meet in person, it has not stopped us from pursuing our mission of making computer science and coding accessible and equitable to students from all walks of life.

We wanted to let our families know that we have decided to pause our after-school programs at this time. We haven’t made this decision lightly. However, with the rising uncertainty due to coronavirus variants and the planning required to execute our after-school programs at the level we require, we think that this decision is the right one. While we won’t be having after-school programs this fall, we did want to let you know some of the other ways we are focusing on making computer science equitable and accessible to all 🧡.

The continuation of the Coding Portal.
We will continue to upload video coding tutorials to the portal. These videos included plugged activities (activities & projects that require the use of a computer) and unplugged activities (skills & activities that students learn away from the computer). This portal allows students ages 7–18 to learn the fundamentals of coding and computer science. There are even fun educational games that get the whole family involved! Create a free account on our coding portal here.

Monthly emails and blog posts.
We will continue to send out routine email updates to share our newest developments in computer science education along with ways families can get involved! To stay in the loop, join our mailing list.

School and Program Partnerships.
We plan to continue partnering with schools, after-school program providers, and non-profit organizations to bring computer science to their teachers and students. If you are a teacher, school administrator, or program administrator, email info@southbendcodeschool.com if you would be interested in partnering to bring state-aligned computer science curriculum and teacher training to your school or program.

While things are changing and times are still uncertain, we remain excited for the next chapter of our mission, and we thank you for your continued support! 🎉

South Bend Code School is an award-winning program founded in 2015 with a mission to combat the technology skills gap at the earliest level by reforming technology education and making learning skills in coding and computer science equitable. Since our inception, we have provided computer science education to over 1,300 students through after-school programs as well as program and school partnerships.
