Our new website is finally here! We completely redesigned our site, and it now features more information about the services we offer.

“It was retro, nerdy, cool, and techy all at the same time!” Jules, Art Director and Designer

It’s funky, and we like that.

Pretty much, a Star Wars t-shirt that our co-founder wore into the office one day inspired our company’s new website. Our team’s Art Director, Jules, took a photo of it because she liked the colors and felt they captured the essence of the South Bend Code School spirit. “It was retro, nerdy, cool, and techy all at the same time! I wanted to pull in some of the elements of how it was funky but also organized,” she said.

It’s not a one-to-one, but how this t-shirt made our designer feel when she looked at it is similar to how we want our students to feel when they’re learning with us: funky, nerdy, cool, techy, and just in general, awesome! It can be hard to stray from a brand, but our website’s new look and feel speak better to who we are as a company today.

“We look like the award-winning company that we are.” Catlin, SBCS Program Development Coordinator

Our new website helps to make the audiences that we serve clear.

SBCS has grown over the years. We only offered classes to middle and high-school-aged students when we first started. We’ve since expanded and now have programming, curriculum, and support available to K-12 students and adult learners. Our site finally speaks to that with information available for each age group and educator.

Another decision that we made was that we also chose to custom-build our website instead of using a CMS like Squarespace. Squarespace is a great tool, and we are fans of it. Squarespace offers clients a lot of great templates to choose from, we needed more freedom than a template would provide in this case.

“We needed a custom build to apply different artwork assets in a more free-flowing way. That can always be figured out with a template, but you give yourself more leeway and freedom this way.” — Jules

Our developer, Paul, was all for this, and we, as a team, are grateful today that Jules pointed us in this direction. We have a website that captures South Bend Code School’s mission: “making tech education accessible” by creating a more user-friendly site and providing a better user experience for our audience.

Our program development coordinator, Catlin, told us that she feels more confident when she sends the link to our website to new contacts because we finally have a website that fully speaks to our work. We have an “awesome website that backs the awesome things we do.”

We encourage you to check it out. Visit southbendcodeschool.com to see our new website, and let us know your thoughts!
