South Bend’s Technology Resource Center (TRC)

This week was a good one. South Bend launched the city’s Technology Resource Center (TRC) and Code School started teaching classes in the new space!
The TRC will be a great resource as South Bend continues to build upon the solid foundation of equitable technology education many people have been working on over the last few years. It’s an exciting time to be in our city!

The City marked the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. We got to see Mayor Pete do what might be his last ribbon cutting as mayor of South Bend. To top it all off, South Bend Code School facilitated a virtual ribbon-cutting using VR technology (the same technology that many of the teens in our after-school programs are learning to build with).

To see a video of the ribbon-cutting, we’ve included a link to ABC57’s article.
All of that being said, this second photo is our favorite because it shows many of the key people at South Bend Code School who make what we do possible. #ourteam

More about the Technology Resource Center:
The (TRC) in South Bend’s Ignition Park was built to democratize technology in our region. All are welcome to the TRC to learn about technology and data, gain skills, and co-build an inclusive tech future for South Bend. A co-location between the City of South Bend, South Bend Code School, and Bloomberg-funded Commuters Trust, the space is home to technology and data training, cross-sector “Beta City” collaborations, and public programming forwarding regional innovation. The TRC was made possible through support from the City of South Bend and the Lilly Endowment.
