This award winning short film from filmmaker Myles Kramer, Community by Design: Skid Row Housing Trust tells the story of Skid Row Housing Trust’s permanent supportive housing for homeless residents, and some of the people making those buildings their homes.
The Skid Row Housing Trust’s New Carver Apartments, featured briefly in the video, is located in South Park at 1624 S Hope St. The New Carver was designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture and opened in 2009. The 97 unit building provides permanent housing, communal spaces, and medical and social services for formerly homeless elderly and disabled residents.
