Making and Keeping Friends

Nurturing friendships may be one of the most important health measure we can take, on par with getting enough exercise and sleep. Loneliness, it turns out, can impact our immune system negatively. And the good news about maintaining friendships…a little bit goes long way. A lot of us become overwhelmed when we think of what it might take to make and maintain friends, especially when our daily lives are packed full and demanding. But a friendship does not need to take a lot of time or energy. It is the small gestures that make the difference: the phone call or text to check in, just to say you are thinking of that person; or showing up for one big event — a birthday or anniversary party, a child’s graduation or shower. These gestures make all the difference. This article points to the simple ways we can keep our friendships alive and thriving.
