The official terms for Space Decentral’s pilot missions
SMAP’s Rules & Guidelines have been released

The Space Mission Activation Process (SMAP) is the pilot system for selecting the first missions to be endorsed by the Space Decentral community. Today, we are publishing the official Space Mission Activation Process: Rules & Guidelines. Please read it thoroughly and make sure you understand the schedule and the general terms of participating.
Selected proposals become activated missions, are featured on spacedecentral.net and enabled for open source, community collaboration using blockchain-based crowdsourcing tools that provide a provenance of contributions on the project. We have many ideas in the making, and the Notice of Intent deadline is coming up at the end of this month.
There are many hats to wear in the SMAP — which one will you wear?
Members of Space Decentral may participate in the SMAP as either proposers, evaluators, voters, organizers, or designers. There can be overlap with a few of these roles as well. Proposers propose missions, evaluators review and vet proposals, voters select top missions from a pool of vetted proposals, organizers help coordinate the SMAP, and (in the future) designers work on the activated missions. Read on to learn more about these different roles and how you can participate now!
Propose next-generation concepts
If you have a great mission idea then you want to be a proposer. To get started, study the SMAP guidelines we have released, then share your idea on our forum or reach out and join some of the initial teams.
Do you have subject matter expertise?
We are looking for evaluators to join the Evaluation Committee and help review proposals to ensure they are technically sound and feasible. If you’d like to participate, apply to join the Evaluation Committee.
Complete open source tasks to earn voting privileges
Beginning in October of 2018, tasks in Space Decentral’s Github repo will be allocated with “points” on a monthly basis, including previously completed tasks. To become a voter, a total of 80 points needs to be earned. Examples of projects where points can be collected are the Coral program, the Space Decentral Network, and the systems engineering python project.
The meta role — help organize the SMAP!
Organizers are members of the Organization Committee and are responsible with tasks such as maintaining the rules and guidelines, coordinating the community on open source tasks, and providing updates on the SMAP. Space Decentral members can apply to join the Organization Committee on a rolling basis.

Upcoming Deadlines
The upcoming deadlines to keep in mind are:
- Submit Notice of Intent — September 30th (optional, but highly recommended)
- Application for Evaluators — December 9th
- Proposal Submission — January 6th
