Freelancing. The act of going it alone. Being your own boss. Managing your own time. Doin’ your own thang…

But just because you’ve gone freelance, does it mean you have to do it alone? Think about it. Even Han Solo (who, in case you weren’t aware, literally has solo in his name) couldn’t live without his furry friend.

OK, so we aren’t saying you need to hang around with your best friend 24/7, but we are saying you don’t need to go it alone. Here’s why you should freelance together:

Motivation, Motivation, Motivation

(One day this will be a show on Channel 4. We just need Kirsty and Phil to reply to our emails… )

Working alone may seem like it would keep you more focused, more productive and more creative, but being on your own in the same place can actually hinder your work. When you’re on your own, your only motivation is yourself, and when you’re the one feeling unmotivated, that becomes a tricky cycle.

That’s why working in a space with other people is one of the best ways to stay motivated. There’s just something about seeing other people focused on their work that can help you snap out of any slump. Surround yourself with other people working as hard as you and you’ll feed off of their energy and stay motivated.

Network like a pro

Every freelancer knows that success often comes from how well you can market yourself. Finding a steady stream of work is no easy feat, and networking can be vital. By sharing an office with other freelancers and startups, you can multitask like a champ: work and network at the same time.

(Note, we don’t condone multitasking — any freelancer worth their salt knows it’s bad for productivity…)

Get chatting to the people around you and you could stumble across even more work. Just because someone is also a freelancer, doesn’t mean they’re a competitor. You’ll each have a network of clients who may be looking for specialists in other fields, so mutual-network-sharing can be hugely beneficial.

Freelance together. Work better.

You know what they say, creativity breeds creativity. We have no idea who ‘they’ are, but they sure are right.

You’re good at what you do. But you can always become better. By working with other talented freelancers, you can learn new skills that otherwise you may never know. Don’t limit yourself to what you know, help yourself improve by working with other equally talented people.

Freelance together. Work better. It’s as simple as that.

Also, sorry about reminding you all about Han Solo. We should have warned you. That one still hurts like a lightsaber through the…

Sorry.
