New Site. New Spaces. Same Values.
So this week we launched the latest version of Spacehop. There are some significant changes to the service but we hope you’ll agree they’re all for the better.
When the business was launched 18 months ago, it was with the simple goal of making better working environments more accessible. We wanted to take beautiful, underutilised residential spaces and open them up to local creatives and freelancers who were previously working from their own homes and might benefit from a change of scenery. A year on we had more than 400 spaces, covered the entirety of the UK and we’re pretty satisfied that we offered our 10K+ members more flexibility in terms of price, location and working environment. So why change?
Well, the simple truth is, we haven’t.
Spacehop has, and always will be, about enabling our community of hoppers to discover workspaces perfectly suited for their needs in real time. By only enabling residential spaces to list, we were actually limiting ourselves in our principal pursuit.
Since inception, Spacehop has been synonymous with the hashtag #workanywhere. The more we thought about it, the more it made sense to welcome a variety or workspaces and really deliver on the motto. With so many incredible and unique co working facilities and meeting venues popping up across the globe, it just did not make sense to keep turning these hosts away. We are really excited to be able to welcome some of these amazing spaces onto the platform this week.
The decision gave us a great opportunity to implement some other changes as well. Spacehop will no longer charge any guest service fee’s whatsoever. We strongly feel that the best thing about Spacehop, is the community of hoppers using the service, wonderful people doing wonderful things. Until now we have charged hoppers 7.5% of the total booking fees to support the platform, we have removed this altogether and will offset the loss in revenue by charging workspaces a small listing fee. Of course, in return for this fee, they will get introductions to our amazing community so we really feel this is a win win situation for everybody.
Don’t worry, it will still be possible to book amazing home office spaces in the usual manner and these hosts will still benefit from free insurance, they’ll just be a little cheaper as a result of the 7.5% fee being removed.
The layout of the site has changed a little to accommodate these changes and some other improvements.
