Spacehop ; A Student’s Story.
It is never fun trying to find the motivation to crack open the books and focus on passing all your exams. Living in a flat with eight other people makes it practically impossible to concentrate. So many times I have tried locking myself in my room, tying myself down to my desk but more often than not the “10minute tea break” turns into a 4hour game of Bullshit with my other flatmates.
After reading various blogs and tips for studying, one thing that seemed to be essential for increasing productivity was choosing the right environment that works for you. People can easily get stuck in a rut and hit a brick wall especially when it comes to revising. This is when I realised; I needed a change of scenery. In an attempt to finally get some work done for my looming exams, I took to my local café to research my options. Then I came across Spacehop.
What is Spacehop?
Spacehop is a member of the sharing community, allowing freelancers or like me, students to hire out home-office space in various locations and flexible times. Intrigued by this, I spent the afternoon browsing the broad selection of spaces for hire near me. Before I knew it I had hired a beautiful space for only £18 for the whole 9am-5pm day.
When I arrived at my hired space to begin my “hop” as they put it, I’m pleasantly surprised by how spacious and unique the space is. I’m welcomed to make myself tea or coffee throughout my day here. It didn’t take me long to feel comfortable, so once I had set up my MacBook and notepads I began with my studying.
The space was beautiful, clean and well laid out. Because I had hired it, this meant I had the whole day to myself. Nothing to distract me. Unlike the library I would usually be sitting up to 2am in or even the coffee shop I would find myself people watching over my 3rd cappuccino. It was relaxed enough to make me feel comfortable and quiet enough for me to concentrate. I found I actually worked for twice as long as I can usually manage.
Since my first “hop” I have become Spacehop’s unofficial PR girl. Recently having used it for a group project, everybody seemed just as impressed and enthusiastic about this new find as me. These spaces are really amazing, and plentiful, making them a brilliant alternative to the ever-distracting student house, coffee shop and even the too busy library.
