Nothing could really keep Bryant from shaking off the feeling that he could be doing something bigger. Something significant. The next big thing. Something he could be proud of, and tell his kids about in the future. This was what he thought while on his way to work one day.

In order to pursue his interest in machines, Bryant left a well-paying job at a construction firm to start his own company, i1Machines. Through his platform, Bryant hopes to help construction companies with machines to link up with companies that are in need of machines, so as to reduce the number of idle machines at any one point in time. He also hopes to foster greater dialogue within the construction sector through TREX Publications, a platform dedicated to sharing construction news and perspectives.

“Airbnb is a property company that owns no assets. And Alibaba is the largest e-commerce platform that owns no inventory. So I thought to myself, how about a construction machinery platform that owns no equipment?”

When Bryant first came up with the concept of i1Machines, he was already confident that he was on to something, based on his work experience as well as insights from his peers. To make this happen, Byrant recounts how his first pitch was actually in front of his family. He had to convince his family that this was an idea worth pursuing.

“I spoke to my wife and parents, and told them about what I wanted to do. My wife has been with me for 16 years and she’s the person who has always been supporting me through ups and downs. With her holding the fort back home, I can fully dedicate myself to i1Machines.”

To date, i1Machines handles more than 180 million worth of machinery. As the number increases, Bryant believes that the trend of turning machines into shared commodities will continue.

“There are countless unused machinery across Southeast Asia at any given point in time. Although the platform is still in its early days, I’m very sure that things will change in this region. I’m looking forward to launch and quickly grow operations beyond Singapore and into the larger region.”

With his eyes on regional expansion, it is easy to forget those who have always been there for you right from the beginning. Bryant’s emphasis on relationships is what he attributes any sort of success to, and is what he’s grateful for. That is also what keeps him going, and pushes him to work hard at what he loves.
