Our Investment in reMarkable
Better paper, Better thinking
Today I am excited to welcome reMarkable to the Spark family as the lead investor in their Series A funding round. reMarkable is a digital paper tablet that delivers the experience of real paper, and yet, is still connected to the digital world.
reMarkable is a single-purpose device with a focused design whose goal is to make paper digital. Those of us who are easily distracted by notifications or constant access to email typically rely on old-fashioned paper notebooks or printouts. The reMarkable paper tablet lets you take notes, doodle, and even upload documents or slides to markup. Sometimes less is more, as we learned with products like the Kindle. There is a world where complementary devices allow us to use the right tool for the job.
At Spark, we learned about the company after watching it run one of the most successful pre-order campaigns for a hardware startup in history. Their 2017 launch saw tens of thousands of paper tablets shipped around the world. We were intrigued and saw the void that reMarkable was filling, a fresh approach to writing and notetaking tools. A few of us got our hands on the tablet and were immediately fans.
ReMarkable CEO & founder Magnus Haug Wanberg is a classic product person who obsesses over every little detail and understands user needs top to bottom. He has also built an incredible team around him that has thought through every element of the experience, without compromising on the product vision. At Spark, we get excited about product-first approaches in reimagining the way people use digital tools. We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this mission to help people think better through handwritten notes and build the future of paper.
