More brawlin’, more ballin’! Edenbrawl is now Sparkball + our road to Early Access!

What a wild ride the last year has been transitioning from a ragtag group of random freelancers to a 30+ person studio made up of ridiculously talented devs from studios like Riot, Epic, and Blizzard. With a thousand mistakes made and even more lessons learned from that journey (a journey we’ll document in depth in the coming months), Worldspark is now somewhere in between, but stronger than ever, making incredible progress week after week.

That journey is now coming to a final culmination as we gear up for our first ever Early Access weekend (ETA: May 2023), aka the first time we’ve ever let more than 20 people play our game at the same time. It’s one thing to make a fun game in a controlled environment where we can sit and explain rules, fix bugs, etc., but another thing entirely to prep for the chaos that is 5,000+ players coming in blind. That said, the team has strapped in and I couldn’t be more excited for what we’re about to deliver.

Why ‘Sparkball’

Sparkadia, Worldspark, Edenbrawl, way too confusing! But first, we had to decide exactly what game we were making.

Okay, what is the game then? It’s like if League of Legends, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros fusion danced while watching a Quidditch Match. It’s madcap mayhem with depth, strategy, and team spirit… and a chicken wizard named Roostandor! It sees two teams square off in our Dunktown arena where they’ll chase, capture, and pass a mysterious… totally unnamed ball with the hopes of scoring the final goal!

And so, SPARKBALL! Say it out loud a couple times. You’re in an Arena surrounded by fans, chanting your name. You’re cooking up dishes, dropping toilet bombs, and using magic spray-paint to dip and dodge through the enemy team as you dash toward the goal. Sparkball!

So what’s next?

While we’re jazzed about Sparkball, this update is about much more than just a name change! After an incredible effort by the team over the last few months, we’re finally nearing the moment we’ve been pushing for for so long… Early Access! We’ve got a brand new map, a few new heroes, brand new items, revamped animations and VFX, updated UI, and more!

As we head into the big weekend, we’ll be constantly updating our community with new updates, alpha footage, dev insights, showmatches, and even dropping our FULL CINEMATIC TRAILER!

Over the next two months we’ll be:

• Giving away a LOT of Sparkadia Origin Sets (Owning a set = 1 guaranteed Early Access key + 2 keys for your friends!)
• Launching our first ever in-game skin: Ascended Kana, via Magic Eden (owning one = 1 guaranteed Early Access key)
• Opening up a multitude of opportunities to make sure you get a proper chance at an Early Access key, even without spending money
• On the weekend prior to Early Access: Hosting a MASSIVE $30k+ prize pool tournament with 8 major esport organizations participating
• And finally, hosting an epic weekend (Friday through Sunday) where we’ll have skill-based matchmaking, leaderboards, and more for our community to experience!

We’re still accepting a few additional Alpha testers as well who will get to play prior to the big weekend. These roles are handed out based on participation and engagement within the community, so read up on your Sparkadia knowledge at http://explore.sparkadia.gg and become a Sparkadian!

We’ll be creating a single dashboard for tracking all things Alpha/Early Access, which will include ways to get and redeem your Early Access key. Again, you will need your own key to participate, but we’ll do our best to make sure there’s ample opportunities for you to grab one!

It’s been a long road and we know we’ve kept folks waiting for awhile here, but I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come. I truly believe we have magic on our hands here with Sparkball and we can’t wait for you to play it!
