Sparking Success: The first-ever Flutter development workshop in Bicol this 2023 ignites a new era of app-building in the region.
The vibrant region of Bicol recently witnessed a groundbreaking event as SparkLearn EdTech successfully organized the first Flutter development workshop in the area: “Flutter Workshop: Building Cross-Platform Apps with Google’s UI Toolkit.”
The workshop, held on May 27, 2023, attracted Computer Science and Information Technology students and teachers from various universities and colleges in Bicol, as well as web developers from the public and private sectors.

Empowering Bicolano developers through Flutter mastery
During the workshop, participants immersed themselves in the world of cross-platform app development using the powerful Flutter framework. The comprehensive program covered essential topics such as creating responsive user interfaces, handling different screen sizes and orientations, and leveraging Flutter’s platform-specific widgets to deliver native-like experiences across multiple platforms.
The workshop objectives were clear: participants will gain a deep understanding of cross-platform development using Flutter, acquire basic proficiency in the Dart programming language, and learn to develop and deploy web applications with Flutter.
The workshop followed a carefully designed outline, encompassing key subtopics such as introduction and overview, history and evolution of Flutter, a comparison between Flutter and other frameworks, the advantages of building with Flutter, understanding the inner workings of Flutter, tool setup and installation, and more. Hands-on activities and exercises guided the participants, reinforcing their knowledge and practical skills.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the engaging workshop activity. Participants developed a global group chat application using Flutter as the front end, with the trainers setting up the API and backend infrastructure using Firebase beforehand. Participants eagerly coded with the trainers, gaining firsthand experience implementing the app’s functionalities. They also had the opportunity to ask questions and seek guidance from the trainers.
Participants followed the project demo until completion, improved the user interface and features, and deployed the workshop demo project to Vercel, showcasing their mastery of the concepts covered.
Continuing the journey to expanding opportunities
The Bicol region witnessed the birth of a new era in app development through the first Flutter workshop conducted by SparkLearn.
