What are your thoughts on women’s empowerment and gender equality in your field?

Myrtle:

Gender inequality is a persistent issue in the blockchain industry. Women are underrepresented in blockchain and cryptocurrency-related fields, which can lead to biased and male-centric perspectives in the development of blockchain applications. However, efforts are being made to increase gender diversity and inclusion in blockchain.

It is important to address gender inequality in blockchain to ensure that the technology is developed and used in ways that benefit all people, regardless of gender. Blockchain has the potential to transform many aspects of society, and women must have a seat at the table to help shape its future.

Gender equality and women’s empowerment are important issues in all industries, including blockchain. Efforts must be made to increase gender diversity and inclusion in the blockchain industry to ensure that it is developed and used to benefit everyone.

Gail:

ICT is a powerful tool for women empowerment as it provides access to education, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities that were previously unavailable. Encouraging more women to pursue careers in ICT can help bridge the gender gap and create a more diverse and inclusive workplace. Overall, women empowerment and gender equality in ICT are critical for creating a more diverse, inclusive, and innovative industry. By promoting positive change, we can help to create a brighter future for all individuals in the technology sector.

Melissa:

Women empowerment means creating a community where women can live and thrive without fear of violence, discrimination, or oppression. It’s about providing women equal opportunities to access education, healthcare, and economic resources. Women’s empowerment can create positive change in society by giving women the chance to take charge of their own lives. When women are empowered, they can contribute to the growth and development of their communities and nations. It can lead to more inclusive and equitable societies where everyone can have the opportunity to reach their full potential regardless of their gender.

Chezka:

As a pilot, Air Force reservist, and now in the tech industry, all male-dominated industries, I believe that gender doesn’t matter. As long as you have the skills, you can enter any industry. At the end of the day, companies look for skills, attitudes, and mindsets.

Are there obstacles or challenges you have faced as a woman in your career? Tell us how you overcame them.

Myrtle:

As a woman in my career, I understand that it is not uncommon to face obstacles and challenges, such as gender bias and discrimination in hiring, promotion, and pay, limited opportunities for advancement and leadership roles, lack of access to training and professional development, work-life balance challenges, and stereotyping and assumptions about women’s abilities and interests.

To overcome these challenges, I have sought out mentorship and sponsorship opportunities to develop my skills and make connections, building a supportive network of colleagues, friends, and family members who can offer guidance and advice. I also learned from setbacks and stayed focused on my goals. Additionally, I have spoken up and advocated for myself, negotiating salaries and promotions and seeking out training and development opportunities.

By taking these steps, I overcame obstacles and challenges in my career, building resilience and achieving success.

Gail:

In general, the tech industry has traditionally been dominated by men, leading to a lack of diversity and inclusion. This situation can make it challenging for women to feel included and valued in their workplace. Women in tech can work to promote diversity and inclusion in their workplace by advocating for policies and practices that support these goals. As the Founder of Women in Blockchain, it is our advocacy to promote women empowerment in the ICT space.

Melissa:

As a woman CEO, gender bias and lack of representation are some challenges I have faced in leading an edtech startup. To overcome these challenges, I work on building strong networks, promoting diversity and inclusion, and advocating for women and their organizations to help them achieve their goals and break down barriers for future generations.

Chezka:

Yes, some people doubt my skills because I am a woman pilot, and I faced the same challenge in the tech industry, where people feel like I cannot excel. However, I never listen to voices that don’t matter and prove to them that I can do it.

What advice would you give to women in tech?

Myrtle:

As a woman in tech, I believe that building a supportive network, investing in ongoing learning, advocating for yourself, finding a mentor, challenging stereotypes, and taking risks are all important strategies for achieving success in this field.

Building a supportive network involves connecting with colleagues, mentors, and peers who can offer guidance and advice on your career path. Attending networking events and joining online communities can be a great way to meet like-minded individuals.

Investing in ongoing learning is crucial in the constantly evolving tech industry. Attending training sessions, conferences, and webinars or pursuing additional education can enhance your skills and knowledge.

Advocating for yourself involves speaking up and negotiating for your salary, promotion, and growth opportunities. Making your career aspirations known and seeking out leadership roles within your organization can also help you advance.

Finding a mentor can be a valuable asset for receiving guidance and support as you navigate your career path. Experienced professionals can provide insights and help make important decisions.

Challenging stereotypes and biases in the tech industry is important for encouraging diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Supporting initiatives that promote these values can help break down barriers.

Taking risks and pursuing new opportunities, even if they are outside of your usual area of expertise, can help you grow personally and professionally.

Gail:

My advice to women in tech is not to be afraid to share their ideas and thoughts with others. Participate in the discussions and be confident in your knowledge and abilities. Look for like-minded individuals who can offer guidance, support, and advice. Attend industry events and connect with other women in tech to build a strong support network.

Melissa:

To women in tech, let’s continue to focus on building our technical skills and expertise through education and training. It’s crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends. Also, don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and your ideas. Speak up in meetings, negotiate for fair compensation, and seek opportunities for growth and advancement. In addition, let’s promote diversity and inclusion in the industry. We can use our voices to advocate for greater representation of women and underrepresented groups in tech and work to create inclusive work environments that value diversity. Women must support each other and work together to create a more inclusive and equitable tech industry for all.

Chezka:

Never be afraid of change and trying out new things. You don’t need to be a techie to work in the world of tech; there are many job opportunities out there. You just need to know what your strengths are and use them for good. Gender should never be an issue.

There you have it, ladies! Being a woman in tech may not be an easy feat, but the journey can be a thrill. Here’s to all the brilliant, revolutionary, and empowered women who continue to make massive waves in the industry for the better. Let’s continue to uplift and support each other, pursuing equality and justice for all women. Happy International Women’s Month!
