According to UNICEF, 103 million youth worldwide still lack basic literacy skills.

What if we could ensure quality education for all and promote lifelong learning?

For Impact Journalism Day, we drew up a list of 5 inspiring solutions responding to this issue among the 60 stories shared by 50 of the greatest media from all over the world, reunited for the event. This is the case of the initiatives of like Educate 2 Envision, Lire C’est Partir and ToekomstATELIERdelAvenir.

Educate 2 Envision — Honduras

Katia Gomez’s program Educate2Envision is teaching 12–18 year olds in the most rural parts of Honduras to fight poverty from within their own communities. In exchange for secondary-school scholarships, E2E brings together young people to design & implement a project to transform their own community’s needs. So far, scholarships have been provided to 110 students, &over 13,000 hours of community impact work carried out, each project centred on a local issue like Dengue fever and elderly malnutrition.

Lire c’est Partir — France

It’s the story of a passionate entrepreneur who disrupted the publishing sector in France to provide reading materials to the poorest. After multiple personal experiences, he founded the NGO “Lire c’est partir” in 1998 to sell 80-cent books to children directly in schools, bypassing the traditional distribution channels. In 2016, this “low-cost” publisher sold 2.5 million books.

ToekomstATELIERdelAvenir — Belgium

Toekomst Atelier de l’Avenir (TADA) is bilingual organisation based in Molenbeek, Brussels that offers professional support and guidance to the most vulnerable youth in Belgium. At TADA300 teenagers commit to voluntarily following weekend school classes every Saturday for a period of three school years. Youth are encouraged think critically, be curious and to identify and develop talents. TADA effectively instills in young people a hunger for the future and confidence to enter the job market.
