Midjourney opened up the world of graphic design to virtually anyone. And it’s fun! With fast render time, creating images is very gratifying.

The only thing you are limited by is your imagination! This is where a handy guide like this comes in! In this article, I will be compiling my list of adjectives, styles and compositions that I’ve used in Midjourney for future reference and inspiration.

General Tips for Using Midjourney

In creating a prompt, it is important to remember that Midjourney only pays attention to the first 60 words. So writing in full sentences may hurt you. Instead focus on complete phrases ordered like this:

[content type], [description - subject + adjectives], [style], [composition]
  1. Identify the content type. Explicitly state the type of art medium, such as oil painting or black and white photograph.
  2. Describe your content. Be as specific as possible, especially when there is a chance it could be mistaken as something else. Be sure to use detailed adjectives.
  3. Include the style. Include the name of a specific artist or tool to invoke their art style, such as Vincent Van Gogh or Unreal Engine.
  4. Describe the composition. Especially for photos, here is where you describe the camera view…
