23rd December — Rohan Shah
Sparrho Advent Calendar
Rohan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow studying drug delivery via lipid nanoparticles and metabolomics at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne Australia.
Rohan won the £500 in travel grant money from Sparrho to help him present at the ANBUG-AINSE Neutron Scattering Symposium 2018 in Sydney, Australia.
‘Bomb’ research: Rohan and his research team are working on a novel microwave-based technology of formulating Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SNL). By encapsulating drugs with a solid lipid matrix they can protect the drugs from chemical degradation and modulate the release of drugs. They can be ‘loaded’ with, for example, antifungal, antibacterial drugs, anti-cancer, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Once these particles are in your body, they burst and effectively release the drug.
