Let’s take a walk. Put away your phones and earbuds. Take time to enjoy a few delightful hours roaming through downtown Spartanburg and discover unique boutiques, café’s, restaurants, a fun bookstore and the new murals that are contributing to the art scene in a life-size manner — bringing color and vitality to downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.

“Street art such as murals can also be philosophical statements that challenge some cherished beliefs about art” observes Lenny Bennett an art critic. What a great observation. The “mural culture” has blossomed in many cities in recent decades; Philadelphia and Miami are examples of murals drawing visitors and a source of civic pride — and now here in this interesting destination. Discover the mural “love where you live,” one of several in the city, the work of local artist Russell Bannan. It features bright blocks of color to reflect elements of Spartanburg, from its 864 area code to its “Sparkle City” nickname and its founding in 1831. Street art is for everyone to enjoy and a part of the Spartanburg experience. Stop by and take a Selfie!
