A s a Silicon Valley/ Bay Area native, I have borne witness to the ever-changing environment that comes with living in a flourishing technologically advanced society. I have seen my predominantly Latino neighborhood change from lower working-class to the middle class in the span of about 10 years, and familiar faces replaced by young tech-workers flocking vacant homes converted in Airbnb’s. My once unattractive area code is now a goldmine to prospecting teach-workers, and obviously, this is not an isolated case.

This change in neighborhood and space has been labeled as gentrification, and it is a phenomenon that has been greatly influenced by the tech boom which rose from Silicon Vally.

So what is gentrification? We hear it all the time at work, on the news, in the streets, but what exactly is it and why should we be more knowledgable of it?
