2. Race plan

Support, gear list, drop bags, nutrition, etc.

General:

Notes to self

  • No need to change shoes or socks!
  • Make sure to have enough salt (use Himalaya salt)
  • Suncream!
  • After restaurant Aradamis, it is “all” downhill. Less than 40 km to finish. This stretch should go fast.

Fuel

Real food, vegan, works best for me:

  • Water melon
  • Greek salad
  • Pasta bolognese
  • Moussaka
  • Apricot
  • Peach
  • Water
  • Himalaya salt
  • Slush / ice cream
  • Alcohol free beer (ice cold)
  • Orange juice (ice cold)
  • Expresso Fredo (ice coffee)
  • Berries (cherries)

Avoid following!!!

  • Bread
  • Cake, muffins etc.
  • Coca Cola, Ice tea (suggery drinks) late in the race
  • Sweets, chokolade

Race day -1

  • Attach timing chip to shoe
  • Attach race id to race belt
  • Attach both race bib to race belt
  • Lay out the race gear

Race day

  • 03:30 wake up
  • 03:45 eat: Coffee, water, banana, bread with peanut and jelly, take vitamins and minerals
  • 05:00 toalet
  • 06:00 drink
  • 07:00 start

Crew stations

At following checkpoints are the crew stations. I do not have a crew this year. Times as my estimates with at race pace (gross 6:00 min/kilometer). Below list to be updated with additional details per checkpoint regarding fuel.

12 (43.9 km) → 11:23 :

  • Drink: 0.5 dl with water (ice cold)
  • Solid food: Spaghetti Bolognese
  • Minerals: Himalya salt in a smal bag
  • Other: ice cubs for hat and armsleeves
  • Other: suncream

22 (80.0 km) → 15:00 : a few kilometers after Corrinth

  • Drink: 0.5 dl with water (ice cold)
  • Solid food: Spaghetti Bolognese
  • Minerals: Himalya salt in a smal bag
  • Other: ice cubs for hat and armsleeves
  • Other: suncream

28 (100.1 km) → 17:00

35 (123.3 km) → 19:20 : Ancient Nemea

40 (139.8 km) → 20:59 : Malandreni

43 (148.3 km) → 21:50 : Lyrkeia

47 (159.5 km) → 22:57 : Base of mountain station

52 (171.5 km) → 00:09 : Nestani

60 (195.3 km) → 02:32 : Tegea

65 (212.0 km) → 04:12: Aradamis

68 (223.4 km) → 05:20 : Monument on the left, checkpoint on the right. Wodden kiosk. This is just before the long climb.

Dropbags

In addition to above list, where you are able to receive help from support, there are several options for dropbags. At the 2021 race, I did not use this option, but for this year — I plan to use many of these. Reason for that is that the options from support tables are not working out for me.

It is possible to have drop bags at every checkpoints.
