In the last couple of months since I started out my journey to explore the AI world, I began deep diving into “Voice Over Applications”. It was just a matter of time I realized how much companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft are investing their time and money to push entrepreneurs to create new, unique and innovative applications using their platform, which really convinced me that there will be a wave of amazing Voice Interface (VI) applications in the coming year.

In an attempt to understand how the VI can be correlated to UI flow of the current mobile first designed applications lets take a example of playing some music on Spotify:

Now using Alexa — Amazon’s virtual assistant you can play songs on your Spotify playlist by saying:

“Alexa play songs from myplaylist”

It is very simple as compared to the current mobile app experience where you pick up your phone and are expected to go through a process of selecting the playlist and then playing it.

The whole user experience with respect to the VI is what I call “parallel processing” — where you are doing some work (ex: getting ready to go to work) and you do not want to go to your phone and book an Uber, instead you can by just saying:

“Alexa ask Uber for a ride to work”

This UX is what makes me convinced with the prediction that “2017 is the year where voice platforms are opening up to mainstream consumers.”

As a part of our contribution and understanding on how to make these applications, we started off by creating a voice over recommendation platform for Netflix on Alexa.

This is a proof of concept which we are incorporating into the skill on Alexa. Any suggestions would really help us out. You can contact me directly on LinkedIn and follow our Facebook page for more updates on our AI projects on .
