Back in the days when I turned channels with a wrench, I’d watch Video Music Box on the daily; this was in the early to mid-90s when no one knew the genre was on its way to becoming a billion dollar industry.

Once a week, the host VJ Ralph McDaniels would feature a segment called MAKE-IT-OR-BREAK-IT for new talent, and depending on the feedback he got, some acts got put on, or their demo tapes never left your favorite mountain climber A&R’s crate of rap hopefuls.

HOMEBOY ELITE SQUADRON

Debut Album: World Domination of the Universe

Issues: This group suffered the fate of so many other rappers in the 90s. They had grandiose names for their album and songs; tracks like WE WILL DESTROY THE WORLD, WORLD DOMINATION OF THE UNIVERSE, WORLD LEADERS CAN’T HOLD
