Charity Begins At Home

Or at least on the street where you live.

The story began on a sleepy gravel road outside of No-where-ville. We were happy to commute to live our dream of country living away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Not only that, we could buy a 3 acre renovators dream for less than a tiny ticky tacky box in the suburbs.

When we moved in to our property and started in earnest to make it liveable we met the neighbours in short order. I don’t remember who approached who first but we were happy to have this little community nook of four houses.

Our kids were at the age where they could be left home alone, but knowing that there were neighbours close by if any problem arose was reassuring.

Phil and Christie proved in short order to be neighbours of the best kind. While they largely kept to themselves, Phil kept their property immaculately. Not only that, he was quick to offer his help in clearing our drive all winter for years and rototilling our garden at the beginning and end of the season.

All we had to offer was to occasionally feed their beautiful pup when they needed a couple of days away. I felt like the poor relations but eventually we did get our very own snow blower!
