When I read Kerry Purvis’s, My Unpretty Gratitude List, I immediately wondered what would be on my own. I can rattle off the wonderful things in my life that I give thanks for regularly, but what about the dirty stuff? Or the things I’m not so proud of, but I’m still grateful for. There’s more to give thanks for than good fortune.

Dirty Trucks, Clean Streets

I’m grateful for street sweeping trucks. I often wonder just how filthy New York City streets would be without them. People throw stuff out of their car windows all the time. Folks litter without giving it a second thought, like they are sure it will get cleaned up. Well, if those trucks stop rolling by with their cool giant swirly brushes, this city would be one big pile of filth. Street sweepers, I salute you.
