Dear Reader,
If you’re like me, you’re standing on the hilltop of 2017, looking back at the charred ruins this year has left behind and wondering “are we going to get through this?”
Of course we will.
Because despite divisions over gender, politics, race, science, beliefs, faiths…despite the “us versus them” mentality we’ve ALL fell victim to, one thing about humanity has always, always, always been true:
WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
We are all hairless primates struggling to survive on a volatile planet.
We are all descendants of the peoples who found comfort and courage in documenting this struggle on the walls of caves.
We are all living remnants of a species whose rate of innovation and adaptation to the convergences of cultures is unparallelled and still accelerating.
Not only that, but every aspect of our species’ biology, neuroscience, psychology and role in the ecosystem reflects the following truth:
WE’RE ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR EACH OTHER AND FOR THE PLANET.
Which is why business innovators are recognizing their part in making positive change through acts of good, socially and environmentally responsible business practices, and sustainable models that align their profits with their impact on the world.
WE ALL HAVE A PURPOSE.
Science tells us that every organism on this planet plays a part in the web of life.
But human beings are the only species on Earth capable of understanding their purpose within the context of the larger picture. We’re the only ones with the ability to see the interplay between systems and recognize the patterns created by those interactions — and how to build or break those patterns.
And we’re the only ones who communicate these insights to one another through the medium of Story.
STORYTELLING IS WHAT MAKES US HUMAN
And storytelling is what will save humanity from itself. It always has, it always will.
That’s what this publication is about: how human beings harness the power of storytelling to make change in the world.
