This week we discussed an article in the Guardian which covered Bloomberg and LSE Group/Refinitiv. We discussed the relationships between these companies, how they compete for an audience of financial analysts, how they are influenced or impeded by their legacy infrastructures and what they may offer in the future.

We took a quick look at corporate ownership in Eikon. Which investor owners appear often? You can easily see the current information but it is trickier to get historical data. There is an app called ‘Data Item Browser (Fields)’ which can help. It is similar to ‘FLDS’ in Bloomberg.

Planning dissertation support

We went on to review an analysis of all the dissertation titles which will be offered to our accounting and finance Masters students this year. We looked at which library databases come up most often and which features they will cover. We looked at which statistical analysis tools and approaches will be required by the students, even though the library will not support them, just offer some wayfinding. We planned our spring and summer support offer.
