A visit to the palace for Special Olympics Equatorial Guinea athletes
The legacy from the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 continues to grow in Africa Region
The First Lady of Equatorial Guinea, Her Excellency Constancia Nsue Mangue Okomo, received the athletes of Special Olympics Equatorial Guinea who competed at the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 at the Presidential Palace last week. The visit was broadcast on Televisión guinea ecuatorial (TVGE).
The returning athletes have been congratulated from all corners of their small nation, including being honored with certificates of recognition from the National hospital for people with intellectual disabilities in Malabo.
Participating in athletics, the competing athletes were Antonio Palmides Nguema, Zecarías Ndoho Mba, Visitación Nsua Ndong and Magdalena Esono Becheng.
The first ever Special Olympics World Games to be held in the Middle East and North Africa was also be the most unified Games in the 50-year history of the Special Olympics movement, with inclusion of people of determination with intellectual disabilities in every aspect of the event.
This included the addition of 14 new Special Olympics Founding Committees: Burundi, Cape Verde, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Niger and South Sudan.
