Special Olympics Pakistan initiated its first cricket friendly Unity Sports matches at the Moin Khan Cricket Academy on 16 March.

Special Olympics athletes opened the event performing festive dances. Honored guests included Sindh Government’s Minister of Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, famous Pakistani sports personalities Moin Khan, Rashid Latif, Salahuddin, Hockey Olympic gold medalist, Islahuddin Siddique, and well-known television personalities Ali Salman and Hamayun Saeed.

Athletes from several special schools in the city played alongside unified partners from Habib Public School, Foundation Public School, the World Academy, CAS, the South Shore Academy and The Moin Khan Cricket Academy. Playing to packed stadiums reverberating with cheers, the matches included incredible athleticism and an exciting display by the cheerleaders from Head Start Junior School.

The successful event continues the dialogue among Special Olympics Pakistan, the Pakistani government and sports personalities, aimed at integrating Unity Sports programs into all local and national sports activities in Pakistan’s schools.
