Special Olympics Africa Region Lights Up For Inclusion!
From Chicago to Sydney, from London to Johannesburg, over 225 landmarks across the world Lit Up Red for Inclusion on 20 July to celebrate Special Olympics 50th Anniversary!
Among them were a dozen landmarks across Africa Region. From Lagos to Windhoek, from Dakar to Mauritius, cities and monuments glowed red for inclusion!
Monuments taking part included:
- Nelson Mandela Statue, Nelson Mandela Square, Johannesburg
- Civic Centre, Lagos, Nigeria
- Civic Towers, Lagos, Nigeria
- Kenya International Convention Centre, Nairobi, Kenya
- Monument de la Renaissance Africaine, Dakar, Senegal
- Rodrigues Monument, Rodrigues Island, Mauritius
- Christuskirche, Windhoek, Namibia
- Rugby Stadium, Windhoek, Namibia
- Telecom Namibia, Windhoek, Namibia
- National Museum, Windhoek, Namibia
- Sam Nujoma Stadium, Katutura, Windhoek, Namibia
- National Heroes Stadium, Lusaka
The initiative demonstrated the deep solidarity felt in every corner of the globe for the Special Olympics movement and marked the beginning of the Special Olympics Inclusion Revolution — our mission to end discrimination against people with intellectual disabilities worldwide and create inclusive communities.
