Special Olympics Remembers Teddy McCook
Statement from Special Olympics on the passing of Teddy McCook:
The Special Olympics Movement is mourning the loss of Neville “Teddy” McCook a long-time supporter and leader for the organization. McCook was president of the North America, Central America and the Caribbean Track & Field Association (NACAC), resided in Jamaica and was a force in helping grow Special Olympics grow throughout the world, but especially in the Caribbean. He served on the Special Olympics International Board of Director from 1992–1996 where he was influential on both the Sports Committee and the World Games Committee.
“Teddy McCook was a warm and joyful spirit. He exuded happiness and brought that gift, together with his enormous sport knowledge, to a small movement called Special Olympics at a time before most knew or cared,” shared Timothy Shriver, Chairman & CEO of Special Olympics. “He was a believer in our athletes and brought countless others to believe as well. We will miss him terribly.”
McCook was also a founder of Special Olympics Jamaica and served on the Board of Directors for that Program. He made an effort to attend all Special Olympics World Games and had intentions to attend the most recent World Winter Games in Korea where the Special Olympics Jamaica Floor Hockey team brought home the silver and Figure Skaters Tamra Mitchell and Nigel Davis won silver in Team Ice Dancing.
