Youth and leadership from 10 Programs gathered for the Special Olympics Africa Youth and Schools Workshop from 12–14 June 2018 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The three day event focused on the evaluation of current youth activation relative to the Global Youth Plan, and the development of Program action plans to further involve youth in the movement. Programs shared best practices for engaging schools and universities including developing partnerships, establishing Unified schools, and fundraising.

Attendees also learned strategies to involve youth in health and Unified fitness programming and how to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

Ngawa Mumba, Coordinator for Youth Activation and Initiatives in the Africa Region, highlighted Program successes through youth involvement. Youth leaders and Program staff headed home equipped and inspired to ensure youth engagement in their countries will continue to flourish!
