What to watch
Written by Alexandra Ghițescu
It feels like we ask ourselves this question more and more often these days. And there are so many options… So here I am, trying to help you find the perfect thing to watch.
To do that, I’ve split some of the best shows I know into 4 categories. This is what I’ve come up with:
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t like comedies? Here are some hilarious feel-good shows:
The title pretty much sums up what this show is about — six friends going through life together as they learn what it really means to be a friend. It is so good that people still watch it nowadays even though it is 25 years old.
The Good Place
Eleanor Shellstrop enters the afterlife and gets into The Good Place. She begins a process of becoming a better person, in the hope of keeping up appearances.
How I Met Your Mother
The whole show is a series of flashbacks from a father’s memories as he tells his children the story of his and his four best friends’ young adult lives and how he met the love of his life: their mother.
Alexa and Katie
Alexa is battling cancer but she’s also starting high school with her best friend, Katie, by her side.
Everybody likes a good scare every now and then, am I right?
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
The long-awaited Netflix series really is worth watching, not only for the compelling story of a teenage half-witch who has to choose between living in the human world and living in the witch world, but also for the amazing visuals .
The Haunting of Hill House
Yet another Netflix show that has left us begging for more. The first 10 episodes were released on October 12, 2018 and the series is expected to be continued. It follows a family confronting life after going through some tragic events and all their problems seem to revolve around the same thing: Hill House. The story unfolds through a series of flashes between past and present.
The Walking Dead
Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma only to find that the world he once knew is gone: the undead have risen and they are coming for the humans. He must lead a group of survivors to stay alive. The series also has a spin-off: Fear the Walking Dead, following the origins of the undead apocalypse.
Why not sit a little bit on the edge of your seat?
Five years after being presumed dead, Oliver Queen, a spoiled rich playboy, returns a changed man, determined to right his father’s wrongs and save Star City.
Forensic scientist Barry Allen is struck by lightning and gets the power of super speed. Soon he starts fighting crime in Central City and becomes the Flash.
Kara Danvers is Superman’s cousin. She didn’t use her powers and lived a normal life on earth, until she had to save her sister. She is now known as Supergirl, protector of National City.
Legends of Tomorrow
Former Time Master Rip Hunter has to recruit a team of outcasts to help him stop a vicious villain while travelling through time. (Even though the first season is pretty bad, the show only gets better and better, to the point where the third season is amazing!)
Did you know?
The Arrowverse is a shared fictional universe that is centered on various DC series like Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. The fictional universe began with Arrow in 2012, it was shortly followed by The Flash in 2014 and the rest is history. The CW dedicates one week a year for its annual Arrow-verse crossover. During the course of one week and, across multiple episodes, with characters, sets and crews from a number of series, developed and shot over the course of one intensive month, the annual event brings the best facets of comic books to the screen.
How to get away with murder
Criminal defense attorney and professor Annalise Keating gets involved in a twisted murder plot along with five of her students and it is bound to change their lives.
This show is very special, as it features numerous songs (covers and original ones) each episode. The plot follows the misfits of a high school as they try to make a name for themselves by joining a glee club.
Pretty Little Liars
After a girl goes missing, her best friends start getting texts from an anonymous person, threatening to reveal their darkest secrets.
The Vampire Diaries
Mystic Falls is a town roamed by supernatural beings but it is also the hometown of a teenage girl who suddenly finds herself standing between two vampire brothers. This show also has a spin-off: The Originals and it follows the Mikaelson family, the oldest vampires, who are hell bent on regaining control of the city that they built: New Orleans.
Once Upon a Time
A small town in Maine is filled with elements of the fairy tale world and when a young woman is brought there she decides to find out more about it.
Game of Thrones
You’ve probably heard of this show already as it has been one of the most popular shows for some time now. To summ it up: dragons, white walkers, lust for power and death.
A homicide detective leads an ordinary life until discovers his special ability: he can tell apart disguised supernatural beings from humans.
This show is one of the longest-running shows on the list as it has fourteen seasons and it was renewed for a fifteenth season. Pretty impressive, right? It is about two brothers who fight supernatural beings of all kinds.
Rick and Morty
This show follows the adventures of an alcoholic but brilliant scientist and his not-so-bright grandson through the multiverse.
An astronaut named Gary and his planet-destroying sidekick called Mooncake journey through space in order to find the end of the universe and to see if it actually does exist.
A dysfunctional family goes through a lot of crazy scenarios and tries to cope with everyday life.
II. Old but gold
I know that most people love to keep in touch with the latest series, but some of the old ones are really good, too. Don’t believe me? Just try these shows: Friends, Golden Girls, The Nanny, Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost, Mad Men.
If you want to know which series is the most popular at the moment, IMDb has a great list, which you can find on their site. They update it frequently, so you will always be in the know.
IV. On Netflix
Lots of people find it a deal-breaker if a show is not on Netflix. So here is a list of all the shows I’ve mentioned, which you can find on Netflix: Friends, The Good Place, How I met your mother, Alexa and Katie, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, The Haunting of Hill House, Teen Wolf, Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, How to get away with murder, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Once upon a time, Grimm, Rick and Morty, Final space, Family Guy.
I hope you found this article helpful.
If you’re one of the people who “doesn’t have time for series” or “doesn’t watch series”, then I have three things to say to you:
1.They are wonderful
2.You could try to make time to watch an episode and see where it goes from there.
3.We always manage to make time for what we really want to do.
Stay tuned ❤
