It takes several days and several months to prepare a speech depending on how formal the speech is. I want to share some of the steps that I use to be prepared.

  • STEP 1: Choose the right topic

It is always important that you know the topic that you are talking about very well and you want to impact your audiences through the speech. Also, you have to have a purpose of the speech. It can be a persuasive speech or general information speech etc.

  • STEP 2 : Searching for resources and organize the body of the speech

No matter how well you know the topic, it never hurts if you do a lot of research beforehand. Make sure to understand the format. Then it is better to have a general idea about how many people are expected and how long would be the speech.

  • STEP 3: Know your audience

Be sure to know who your audiences are and what they are expecting from your speech. Make sure that they are interested in listening to what you are speaking. Trying to make your speech look like a conversation with your audiences.

  • STEP 4: Rehearsal

You can have physical rehearsal or mental rehearsal and edit as you rehearsal because you can always add in more stuff or make little changes throughout the whole speech. When you memorize your speech, you do not have to remember every single word, instead, you can just memorize the main points and speech in your own way since this is a topic that you know really well. Rehearsal multiple times until you are comfortable under the time limit.

  • STEP 5 : Be prepared for questions par

When audiences have questions, it is a good way to know if you have already fully presented your ideas in your speaking. Some questions might be super valuable. If no one has question, it is probably they are totally lost during your speech. I encountered once there were nobody asking questions after speech. and It turned out that they did not understand what I was talking about .
