Benefits of Individualized attention in Education

--

“Within each person is the miracle of a unique consciousness unlike any other in the universe”, Bryant Mc Gill

Classroom: A place with numerous strengths and knacks

Every classroom, be it virtual or real, primary or secondary etc. comprises many entities in the form of students. Each student is unique in his/her ways and he/she can possess a different mindset, personality, behaviour etc. Multiple talents are witnessed in a class which makes it quite a complex place.

A strong foundation of future: individualized attention

Every student has his/her dreams and ambitions. If student A wants to become a pilot, it is not at all necessary that his friend Student B also dreams for the same. Problem-solving skills can vary for sure, so a teacher/instructor has to keep in mind that no two students have the same mindset as well as learning pace. Here comes the concept of Individualized attention. In this blog, we will discuss the concept of individualized attention for efficient learning as well as its advantages.

What is individualized attention?

It is something that ensures to bridge the gap between the learning pace of different students, as the class progresses. This will prevent the feeling of isolation in those children who are slow learners. Not only this, the foundation of a strong future gets laid because of this sort of attention.

Few benefits of individualized attention are stated below. They are:

  • It strengthens the bond between a teacher and his/her student: Nowadays, a healthy teacher-student relationship is lost somewhere. There is more of a formalism between the two which is restricted to studies only. Students do not like to open up in front of their teachers and try to avoid them. This is not at all good. But, with the concept of individualized attention, things can change. Teachers will get to know about the issues faced by his/her students and this will help them to understand the fortes and flaws of every single student. Accordingly, goals can be set.
  • Opportunities for every single student: Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. What is a strength for one can be a weakness for another and vice versa? For example, A person with excellent thinking capability but introverted nature can be a good writer. What does this mean? In simple words. It means that individual attention helps every student to overcome the hurdles in his/her path and in the end, showcase absolute brilliance. Moreover, this also helps in identifying the talent of the students. Talent is not about academics only, a person with average academic performance can do well in sports or music etc. This recognition of talent comes with individualized attention only.
  • Motivation and sense of responsibility: Motivating someone in person is far better than doing the same in-group of people. This is because every student requires a different form of motivation which makes it a personal kind of thing. Teachers can bring out the best within his/her students through individualized attention. It does not stop here, if a teacher is showing continuous efforts and offering help to the student, he/she also becomes responsible for grasping that help. A student will understand the hard work of his teacher during personalized attention and hence, not only responsibility but respect for the teacher will also increase.
  • Increases focus of the student: A research made by a group of scientists says that our focus is deteriorating day by day, especially of students. This can happen because of many reasons but the prominent one of all the reasons is lack of proper counselling and attention. To make the environment of a classroom more fruitful, compatibility between teachers and students is required. This compatibility is not group-oriented, it comes when every student feels personalized connectivity with the teacher. Once this connectivity develops, focus amidst learners will also increase.
  • Develops interest among students: Let us understand this with the help of an example. Suppose, there is a student named A who loves painting but he is average at studies. He wants to apply for an international competition but he is not so confident about the same. In this case, individualized attention can help. His teacher can interact with him and help him develop an interest in the competition. Moreover, in some cases where parents too are not supportive, personalized attention can for sure help.
  • Scope of improvement: Improvement in study patterns can be done using this tool. Personally, every student can be asked to provide his/her feedback about the classroom and whether they are satisfied with the teaching or not. This is possible via personalized interaction only because many students won’t feel comfortable speaking their feedback in groups.

Key Takeaways

We have learnt about the benefits of personalized learning in the above blog. Its implementation is very necessary to cherish the skills of students and provide them with the best learning experience. This implementation can be done using technology, counselling sessions etc.
